Temporary Seasonal Nursery Assistants Needed

We are looking for several seasonal Nursery Assistants to join us over the busy Spring period, working a minimum of 3 days a week for up to 6 months. 

This role would suit a hardworking individual, including school leavers or those preparing to go on to further education. 

We are a busy, expanding, modern Production Nursery, growing over 1000 varieties of plants on site, which are then sold at our Plant Centre.  

  Key Duties 

• Loading and unloading stock 
• Weeding, pruning, and feeding 
• Cleaning, grading, and labeling stock ready for dispatch 
• Other nursery-related tasks 

Your Capabilities  

• Able to operate in a fast-paced environment and complete tasks in a timely manner 
• Comfortable working inside and outside in varied weather conditions 
• Motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team 
• A keen interest in plants 
• Excellent communication skills 
• Flexible with working hours 
• May be required to work at the Plant Centre when necessary 
• This is a physically demanding role. You must be able to lift, push, and pull trolleys throughout the day.

Delivery And Dispatch Operative 

Job Type: Part-time, flexible working  

We are looking for a motivated and reliable Delivery & Dispatch Operative to support our busy Production Nursery operations at Olivers Plants. This role plays a key part in delivering quality products to our customers, maintaining smooth day-to-day dispatch and stock movement, and upholding our high standards of quality and customer service. 

Hours to be negotiated between Monday-Friday, 7.30am to 5.00pm. Occasional weekend hours required at peak times. Full UK driving License required. 

Key duties 

• Delivering orders to retail and trade customers in a timely manner with excellent customer service. 
• Moving stock between our Production Nursery and Plant Centre. 
• Assist with preparing orders for both retail and trade customers including checking paperwork, grading, and picking stock. 
• Quality control making sure only the best items are delivered to our customers. 
• Other Nursery related tasks as required. 

Your Capabilities 

• Full UK Driving License valid for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes required. 
• Ability to identify plants an advantage but not essential. 
• Counterbalance forklift qualification desirable but not essential. 
• Be hardworking, reliable, punctual and able to complete tasks in a timely manner. 
• You must be physically fit to be able to load and unload our vehicles. 
• Work inside and outside in varied weather conditions. 
• Motivated and able to work within a team or on your own. 
• Excellent communication and customer service skills. 
• Basic numeracy and literacy skills required.

Plant Centre Supervisor

We are looking for a passionate, hands-on and motivated Plant Centre Supervisor to support the day-to-day running of our busy Plant Centre. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their horticultural career and gain greater responsibility within a growing business.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supervising daily operations, supporting staff, maintaining high retail standards, and delivering excellent customer service. You will confidently help oversee the smooth running of the Plant Centre and wider site operations.

This is a varied and physically active role that combines horticultural knowledge, retail operations, customer service and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales

• Deliver excellent customer service and expert horticultural advice
• Assist both retail and trade customers with plant and product selections
• Support sales growth through strong product knowledge and customer engagement
• Operate tills and assist with general retail transactions
• Handle customer queries professionally and confidently

Plant Centre Operations

• Maintain high standards of plant care, including watering and general plant health
• Ensure excellent housekeeping standards across the Plant Centre
• Coordinate and receive incoming deliveries and goods-in processes
• Use stock management systems to monitor and manage inventory
• Order stock from the Production Nursery and assist with dry goods ordering when required
• Support seasonal changes, merchandising and display creation throughout the Plant Centre
• Ensure stock is well presented, labelled and replenished

Team Leadership & Supervision

• Coordinate daily staff duties and workloads
• Lead by example with a proactive and hands-on approach
• Support, motivate and guide team members
• Assist with training and maintaining high operational standards
• Confidently oversee operations in the absence of the Plant Centre Manager

Additional Duties

• Assist with general site and farming duties, including caring for hens and poultry
• Support wider business operations during busy seasonal periods
• Maintain health and safety standards across the site
